Kanawa Island 
Kanawa Island is another tropical paradise located on the edge of Komodo National Park. It is located about 15 km from Labuan Bajo and is typically one of our last stops on our boat tours. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the beautiful beach and reflect on the trip you just had sailing around Komodo National Park. There are many activities to do here such as swimming, snorkelling, diving, hiking, or just soaking up the sun. Snorkelling is very popular at Kanawa because it is easy access to see such beautiful things. You can easily walk right on the beach and see untouched starfish in very shallow water. You can snorkel over beds of beautiful coral reefs that house many colorful fish as well. The white sand and turquoise water can help relieve your stress and help you enjoy this true tropical paradise. Although this island gets a descent amount of tourists from boat trips, it still keeps that natural and untouched feel of a tropical paradise.
If you only have 1 day to do a Komodo boat tour, Kanawa can be one of the main destinatinons you can make to relax and enjoy the island. If you have a few days to Sail Komodo National Park, we can customise an itinerary for you and your group. Other islands that you can add to your trip can be Komodo Island, Rinca Island, Padar Island, Pink Beach, Long Beach, Taka Makassar, Manta Point, Kalong, Gili Lawa, and many others. Many of our guests who take a 3 day/2 night boat tour, choose between Komodo Island and Rinca Island to see Komodo dragons and to enjoy some light trekking. Besides picking one of the those islands, many other destinations can be added to your itinerary. Some of our guests choose to spend more time hiking Padar Island and want to spend the rest of the day Lounging in the sun at the famous Pink Beach. Another popular spot is Manta Point. Where you can snorkel with giant manta rays as they gracefully swim underneath you like a dance. Swimming with Manta Rays and seeing Komodo Dragons in the wild is something every visitor that comes to the area should experience.
Kanawa Location
Kanawa located about 15 km west of Labuan Bajo, northwest of Pulau Punga Besar, and east of Pulau Sebayur Besar. There is a beach resort and restaurant located a Kanawa but it is currently closed. Covid and pandemic has taken a hit on the local economy and hopefully it will reopen soon when tourism comes back to full capacity. |
