What are the top 5 locations in Komodo? It’s quite unanimous with our guest that the top 5 places to visit in Komodo National Park while on a Leisure tour are; Padar Island, Komodo Island, Pink Beach, Manta point (Makassar Reef), and Taka Makassar.
If you are scuba diving in Komodo, then there are other top 5 spots for scuba diving in Komodo. For leisure tours, we can start with many guests’ favorite which is Padar Island. Padar Island is probably the most photographed island in all of the National Park and probably one of the most photographed in Indonesia as well. This is for a good reason. It is an absolutely stunning island with beautiful beach bays. It has one Pink Sand (Pantai Merah), one white sand (Pantai Kecil) and one with black sand. The island has jagged hills with an incredible panoramic views from the top. If you visit during rainy season or a little bit after, you will see a lush green island that is sure to impress you. It takes about 45 minutes to get to the top for most people and there are steps for more than half of the way up. From the top, you can easily see Komodo Island, Rinca Island, and beautiful turquoise waters in many different areas. When on your boat tour, you can usually do a Padar sunlise hike or a Sunset hike. Make sure to add Padar as an option to any Komodo Tour Package as it is a not to be missed location. Another one of the top 5 locations for Komodo National Park would be Komodo Island. Komodo Island, as it’s name says, is famous for the Komodo Dragons that inhabit the island. Komodo dragons are the largest lizard species in the world and Komodo Island is a great place to spot them. This island is home to approximately 2,000 Komodo dragons. They can grow up to 3 meters long in length and weigh to 150kg. You can also see wild boar, deer, a variety of bird species, and lush forests as well. Visitors to the island have three different trekking options. The short, medium, and long hike. The longer hike can last up to 8 hours and is rarely taken by guests on Komodo tours. Visitors can also buy local souvenirs and snacks from the locals that sell them.
One of the favorite spots in Komodo for leisure tours and scuba diving tours is called Makassar Point, also commonly known as Manta Point. You can see it on the Komodo Diving Map. Manta Point is located between Komodo Island and Rinca Island, but much closer to Komodo. As it’s name says, it is famous for seeing many Manta Rays in the area. There is usually a light current or drift and the Manta Rays swim against the current and feed. While on your boat tour, your guide will usually try to spot the mantas from the boat, so they can give you the best opportunity to see them. As your guide should explain to you, that you should not try to touch the manta, because they have a thin layer of film that protects them, and by touching them it could lead to bacteria growth. Whether you are snorkelling or diving, make sure you have your underwater camera, because Manta Point can be an incredible underwater experience.
Another famous location is Pink Beach. Pink Beach is Located on Komodo Island and not only offers a beautiful beach but is also a great place for snorkelling and scuba diving. There are many different species of coral in the beach bay and the visibility is usually very good. The beach is pink because of the presence of microscopic organisms which are called Foraminifera, which have a reddish-pink shell. Not only is enjoying the underwater a great way to enjoy Pink beach, but also don’t forget your beach towel, sunglasses, and sunscreen, because it is a stunning place to just sit relax and catch some rays.
The last most popular location is called Taka Makassar. The island is located between Komodo Island and Manta Point. The island is popular for it’s pristine white sand beach and turquoise water. The water is surround by beautiful turquoise water because the water is quite shallow and the sand goes out very far, giving the water a much lighter blue color. This location is where visitors can get that perfect island paradise beach photo.
