If you're planning to trek on Komodo Island, here's a guide to the different hiking trails and what you can expect to see along the way.
Komodo Island Hike Komodo Island is the largest island in the Komodo National Park and is home to the Komodo dragon. There are three main options for hiking on Komodo Island. When you get to the island and register, your guide will offer you 3 different options for hiking. You can choose between the short, medium, or long hike. The short and mediem hike are by far the most popular as by doing these, you have a great chance to spot Komodo Dragons and also you still have the rest of the day to enjoy other parts of the island. It is very common to see Komodo dragons close to the beach area, but by taking the medium trek, you have a better opportunity to see Komodo dragons in their natural habitat, as well as other wildlife such as deer and wild boars. You'll also have the chance to see some beautiful landscapes, including hills, valleys, and forests. Padar Island Hike Padar Island is a large island located center of Komodo Island. Padar Island is located between Komodo island and Rinca Island. The island offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape and is a great spot for sunrise or sunset. The hike to the top of Padar Island is medium difficulty hike, taking around 45 minutes to reach the summit. In the last few years, they local governemtn has built steps that are on about half of the way up the trail. Along the way, you'll pass through a rugged landscape with unique rock formations and vegetation. At the top, you'll be rewarded with a panoramic view of the island and its surrounding waters. Depending on the season and time you start your trek, there is a good chance you may see many other guests on the trial or at the top as well. Please be respectable towards others as everyone wants to get a few amazing photos as well. |

Rinca Island Hike
Rinca Island is another island in the Komodo National Park and is home to a large population of Komodo dragons. The hike on Rinca Island is more challenging than the hike on Padar Island, but in the last few years, they local government has been rebuilding the walkway so know for much of the area, there is a bridge so the hikers are above the Komodo Dragons. You still get to see the views and wildlife sightings and they truly make it worth the effort of visiting Rinca Island. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to spot Komodo dragons in their natural habitat, as well as other wildlife such as monkeys and wild boars.
Gili Lawa Hike
This trail is more challenging and takes about 2 hours to hike. The climb to the top is steep, but the view is worth it. From the top, you'll see a panoramic view of Komodo National Park and the surrounding islands. Many visitors enjoy doing this as a sunset hike, but just remember to bring flashlights for the hike back down.
