Komodo Tour guide Interview #1 Tour guide Interview #1
Interviewer: Hello, can you introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about yourself? Guide: Yes may name is Eddie, I have been a tour guide off an on in the Komodo and Flores area for over ten years. Interviewer: Ok very nice. Can you tell us your favourite places to to go and why? Guide: Sure. I would have to say it has changed a bit over the years. I enjoy always seeing new places and working with different guests from all around the world. Orginally, I would say that touring all around Komodo National Park was my favorite. I love hiking Padar Mountain and seeing the beautiful views from the top. It is also rewarding seeing the expressions on the guests' face when they see how amazing it is. I remember when I first started going there, I did not want to leave the Island. Padar Island Is an absolute jewel and I hope it will stay protected forever so people can keep coming to it and see it’s natural beauty. I also of course love seeing Komodo Dragons up close why they are in the wild to Komodo Island and Rinca Island. It seems no matter how many times you have seen them, it is alway quite impressive to see the largest lizards in the world. As well, just like visiting Padar, Seeing the expression and reactions from the guest’s faces is always rewarding. It is also kind of funny to see how all the guests react differently. I have seen some guests that want to get very close to the Komodo dragons and some guests that won’t even look them because they are so scared. I have even had a few guests that scream over and over when they saw them. There of course is no reason for this, considering there is always a professional guide there to help. Interviewer: Wow, that sounds exciting. What other parts in Komodo National Park do you enjoy? Guide: Well, considering I have seen many of the same locations many times, now I find the joy in experiencing it through the eyes of other people. Pink Beach is another great spot for tourists to visit. Maybe people in the world have never seen such an amazing beach. On some days depending on how the sun hits it, it can have a very bright pink color. For me, I have obviously seen it many times, but for many it is once in a lifetime experience. I think this is one of the top 3 places in the islands for guests to take selfies for sure. As well, the snorkelling Pink Beach is very good as well, and many guests have never snorkeled in a location as beautiful as Pink Beach. One location I enjoy as well, that we only go to on 2 and 3 day boat tours to Taka Makassar. This is a pretty unique location as it is literally just a beach in the middle of the ocean. There are no mountains or hills, just a perfect crescent shaped white beach with great snorkelling. I always enjoy seeing the guests reactions to this place as well. Some people never seem like they want to leave. I can understand that if you come from a big city. Taka Makassar is the opposite of that kind of life. The water that surrounds the island is crystal clear as well. As far as Komodo National park, I would say that those are my favorite locations to visit. Lately, I have also enjoyed the Flores Overland Tours. There are some amazing locations such as Wae Rebo Traditional Village, Kelimutu Volcano, Bena Traditional Village, Rangko Cave, and Cunca Wulang, just to name a few. About of all these I think my favorite is always Wae Rebo Traditional Village. This is a great overnight trip to spend with the locals and truly get to expense local life. We start with about a 2-3 hours hike up in the mountains. The speed depends on how fast the guests are hiking. Some go very fast and some go slower. Once we get to the traditional Village, It is always the same. The guests are always incredibly impressed with seeing the traditional village. Many take pictures before we even make to the the traditional houses. After we see the village, we take the guests to the main house in the middle to take part in the traditional process to welcome all the guests in the the village. After the welcoming ceremony, guest are welcome to walk all around the property and take photos and socialize with the locals. Then we have dinner at night with all the locals in one of the traditional houses. This is always fun to see how all the tourists interact with each other and the locals. Then in the morning after a breakfast we hike down back back down the mountain. I think this is my favourite tours to do with guests. Inteviewer: Wow, that is fantastic. Thank you for sharing. I know you said you only have 20 minutes for this interiew, but can we continue later maybe tommorrow? Guide: Yes, that would be great. Then I can tell you about Places like Kelimutu, Cancar Rice Fields, Cucan Wulang, Cucan Rami and some other places.
