Komodo scuba Tour guide Interview #2 Interviewer: So Yon, thank you for taking this interview, so please tell us a bit about yourself and your background as a dive guide.
Dive Guide: Hi! My name is Yon and I'm a professional dive guide. I've been diving for over 10 years now, and it's been a passion of mine ever since I took my first dive. I've been working as a dive guide for the last 8 years and I've been fortunate enough to lead hundreds of dives in the Komodo region. It still excites me everytime! Interviewer: That's amazing! Sounds like you love your job. Can you tell us a bit about your favorite dive sites in Komodo and what makes them so special? Dive Guide: Well, that's a tough one! There are so many great dive sites in Komodo, but if I had to choose, I'd say my top three are Batu Bolong, Castle Rock, and Crystal Rock. Batu Bolong is great because of its stunning coral formations and the large schools of fish that you can see. Castle Rock is known for its stunning topography and the opportunity to see large pelagics, such as manta rays. I think Crystal Rock is another favorite because it is a beautiful dive site with crystal clear waters and amazing visibility. Once you get a bit deeper, it truly turns into the deep blue. Interviewer: That sounds incredible! I can imagine it is hard to choose because there are so many great places. Can you share with us some of your most memorable experiences as a dive guide in Komodo? Dive Guide: Yes, Absolutely! One of my most memorable experiences was when I was leading a dive at Castle Rock and a large manta ray decided to pay us a visit. It was just an incredible moment to be in the presence of such a magnificent creature. You can see all kinds of fish at Castle Rock but seeing Manta Rays that deep is bit more rare at that location. So it caught me by surprise. I also remember one time when I was leading a night dive and we encountered a large octopus. It was such a unique experience to see this incredible creature in its natural habitat at night time. Seeing an octopus is always great, but it was a pleasant surprise at night time. Interviewer: That's amazing! Can you share with us some tips for divers visiting Komodo for the first time? Dive Guide: Absolutely! The most important is to always be prepared for some amazing diving! Komodo is one of the most diverse and beautiful dive destinations in the world. My tips would be to make sure you have the right equipment and to listen to your dive guide. The currents can be strong in Komodo, so it's important to be aware of your surroundings and to follow the guidelines of your dive guide. Additionally, it's always a good idea to pack plenty of water and snacks to stay hydrated and nourished during your dives. This should be provided by your dive guide (me) or your Komodo Scuba Dive Company. Interviewer: That's great advice, Yon. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiences and insights with us. It was a pleasure speaking with you today. Dive Guide: It was my pleasure. Thank you for having me! I love talking about it. Diving in Komodo Never gets old! "In Summary , As a guide in Komodo National Park for the past 10 years, I can wholeheartedly say that it has been an incredibly enjoyable and rewarding experience. Being able to share the wonders of this pristine marine paradise with divers from around the world has been a true privilege. The park's breathtaking underwater landscapes, teeming with vibrant coral reefs and an abundance of marine life, never cease to amaze me. Guiding divers through the diverse dive sites of Komodo has been a constant source of excitement and fulfillment. From the adrenaline-pumping drift dives at "The Cauldron" to the awe-inspiring encounters with majestic manta rays at Manta Point, each dive offers a unique adventure. The opportunity to witness the sheer beauty of Komodo's marine ecosystem, from the smallest colorful critters to the magnificent sharks and turtles, is truly remarkable. Beyond the incredible diving experiences, the connection with fellow divers and the sense of community that has formed over the years is truly special. Sharing the joy, thrill, and sense of wonder as we explore the underwater world together has created lasting memories and friendships. Moreover, being part of a dive community that prioritizes environmental conservation and sustainable practices is incredibly fulfilling. In summary, my 10 years as a guide in Komodo National Park have been a journey of discovery, adventure, and immense joy. It is an honor to guide divers through this extraordinary underwater realm and witness their awe and appreciation for the natural wonders that Komodo has to offer. I look forward to continuing this incredible journey and sharing the magic of Komodo with many more divers in the years to come."
