Komodo Island and the National Park was closed for the 2020 to 2021 season because of covid closers. Now in middle 2022 it is fully open to tourists. Although there are bungalows on Komodo Island, guests can not stay on the island. These bungalows are reserved for special guest and film crews that come to visit and shoot movies from time to time. Most guests that visit Komodo Island stay in Labuan Bajo or onboard a Liveaboard boat while sailing around the National Park. You can take a one day speed boat trip to Komodo National Park and see many of the locations that are famous, but it is recommended to take a 2 day 1 night Komodo Island tour or even longer for 3 days. This way you can see many of the beautiful islands and as well, take you time and not be rushed when hiking or relaxing on the beaches. Komodo National Park is also famous for a few reasons, including the Dragons as well as world class scuba diving. The strong currents create a perfect environment for a large plethora of aquatic wildlife under the water. You can see Manta Rays, Sharks, Sea Turtle, Octopus, and more when scuba diving in the park. Typically the best time to see Komodo Island is around April to June. This is just after rainy season and all the plants are more green than in dry season. The temperature is a bit cooler than in the hotter season as well. Many scuba divers prefer to scuba dive during the rainy season, which is usually from November to March. This is usually a better time to see Manta Rays in locations such as Manta Point and Mawan Island. The current can also be a bit stronger during the rainy season, so for diving that like stronger currents it can provide for a more exciting scuba diving as well.
