The Importance of Proper Dive Planning for Safe Scuba Diving in KomodoScuba diving in Komodo National Park is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, with breathtaking underwater landscapes and a diverse array of marine life. However, it's important to prioritise safety when exploring this stunning environment. Komodo can have very strong currents and the current and tides can change quite fast. If you are inbetween a rising and falling tide and the water is calm, eventually the water may start to have current and can become dangerous. This is why it is imperative to listen to you dive guide and follow their directions. One crucial aspect of safe scuba diving is proper dive planning.
Why is dive planning important?
Our Dive guides go over every part of each dive with you and make sure you understand the dive plan. Dive planning helps ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable diving experience. By taking the time to plan your dive in advance, you can identify potential risks and hazards, establish safety protocols, and ensure that everyone involved in the dive is on the same page. Here are some key factors to consider when planning a dive in Komodo National Park: 1. Dive Site Selection Choose dive sites that are appropriate for your skill level and experience. Komodo National Park has dive sites for all levels of divers, from beginners to advanced, but it's important to choose a site that's suitable for your skill level. At Maika Komodo Tour & Diving, we select the daily dive sites based on season, weather, tides, and our guests certification and experience levels. 2. Dive Conditions Check the weather and water conditions before your dive, as these can have a significant impact on your safety. Strong currents, rough waves, or poor visibility can make a dive more challenging, so it's important to be aware of these factors before you dive. This is also something you will learn from our dive guides when choosing the correct dive spots and during their dive briefings. |
