Located in the heart of Komodo National Park, this breathtaking crescent-shaped sandbar — also known as Taka Makassar or Makassar Reef — rises from crystal-clear turquoise waters like a tropical dream. The soft pink-white sand and surrounding reef make it one of the most photographed spots in Komodo.
Taka Makassar area is famous for snorkeling and manta ray encounters, as the nearby reef system is one of the most popular for spoting Manta Rays in Komodo National Park. Guests often describe this location as the highlight of their Komodo boat trip. This tiny treasure is something extremely special. Many of our guest compare it to the beautiful islands of the Maldives. If you have a drone, this is also an excellent spot to use it to truly grasp the beauty of the surrounding turquoise crystal clear water. The snorkelling and diving here are one of a kinds considering it is the area is the longest reef in Komodo National Park. This is also known by many as the Instagram spot. This site features gentle slopes, vibrant coral gardens, and frequent encounters with green sea turtles gliding effortlessly through the reef. Snorkelers can float above the reef and observe marine life in excellent visibility. Taka Makassar Relax at the stunning sandbank of Taka Makassar, a crescent-shaped island surrounded by shallow turquoise water. Perfect for snorkeling, swimming, and photos, this idyllic stop offers colorful reef fish and crystal-clear conditions just steps from the sand. Padar – Night Dive As the sun sets, certified divers can explore a completely different underwater world during a night dive near Padar. Watch as nocturnal species emerge—octopus, crabs, and hunting reef creatures become active under your torchlight. Snorkelers can unwind onboard and enjoy a peaceful evening beneath a sky filled with stars. Day 2 Padar Island – Sunrise Trek Begin the day with an early morning hike to the iconic viewpoint of Padar Island. The panoramic summit reveals dramatic bays, rolling hills, and changing colors as the sun rises over Komodo National Park—a true highlight of the journey. Komodo Island – Dragon Trek Step ashore on Komodo Island for a guided walk through the natural habitat of the legendary Komodo dragons. Rangers lead the trek while sharing insights about the island’s ecosystem and the behavior of these remarkable reptiles. Pink Beach – Dive or Snorkel Explore beneath the famous pink-hued shoreline at Pink Beach. Divers will discover lively coral slopes and schooling reef fish, while snorkelers can drift above vibrant coral formations in warm, clear water just meters from the sand. Mauan (Manta Spot) At Mauan, keep your eyes open for majestic manta rays as they glide through nutrient-rich currents. Day 3 Batu Bolong Often considered one of Komodo’s most spectacular dive sites, Batu Bolong offers a dramatic underwater pinnacle covered in thriving coral and dense marine life.
