Customer review for Maika Tour Agency Just wanted to share my story of our Komodo National Park Tour.
I booked online with Maika Komodo Tour Agency. I was booking from The United States, so Just looked online and their website looked very professional and they had some good reviews. I contacted them and told them about my family that was coming to Labuan Bajo for a week. We had never been to Flores Indonesia, so I did not know anything about this part of Indonesia. We spoke on the phone and we decided taking a 3 day live aboard boat trip to Komodo would be the best option for my family of five. The lady on the phone was extremely helpful and spoke very good english. Her knowledge of the islands and her recommendation were very well thought out. When we arrived to Labuan Bajo from Bali, we stayed in our hotel and early in the morning a car picked us up at our hotel and took us to the Maika Komodo Tour office in Labuan Bajo. We signed a few papers and tried to find the right size for our fins for snorkeling. After that we went to the boat and met the crew. Everyone was very excited and you could feel the positive energy from the crew. Our sail away was beautiful. The weather was perfect and the water was very flat and calm. We had a nice breakfast and snacks and the guide gave us all kinds of good information about the islands and Komodo dragons. We first arrived at Kelor Island also known as Pulau Kelor. This was a tropical paradise. The beach was so soft and white and the water was like a movie. We did a short hike to the top and took some great photos and after hiking down we had fresh coconuts on the beach. This was the perfect start to our trip. The locals on the island were very friendly and nice to talk to. Our next stop was to hike Padar Island. My family was super excited to go here after seeing all the amazing photos online. Once we got there we hiked to the top and I fell in love with Padar Island. It was absolutely magnificent! The views from the top were probably the most beautiful views I have ever seen in my life. We took so many photos. After we left I already knew I had to come back Komodo National park again in the future! Our next stop was to see manta rays by snorkelling at Manta Point. I am not a very experienced person in the water so one of the guides stayed by myside and kept me comfortable. They did a great job of helping me. We saw about 5 manta rays and they swim all around us. This was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. It was almost like they were dancing all around us in a graceful dance to entertain us. After that snorkeling trip, I have so much respect for Manta Rays and know I have to learn so much more about them. We ended up saying the night on the coast of Kalong Island where we got to see so many flying foxes or massive fly bats at sunset. This was very cool and I was even a bit scared at one point, but the guides made sure we knew it was ok. There must have been 1000’s of these flying foxes and they were so big. After that experience we had a good time socialising and relaxing before going to sleep. In the morning after breakfast we went to Komodo Island and actually got to hike all around the island and saw four Komodo Dragons. They were so massive, I could not believe it. The local guide even took great photos of us behind the Komodo Dragons and it looked like were right next to them. This was such a great experience. We also had time to do some shopping from the local arts and crafts on the island. After seeing the Komodo’s, we went to the famous Pink Beach Komodo. This was absolutely the most amazing beach I had ever seen. The sand was actually pink, the beach was massive, and there were only a few people there that day. It was like we had our own beach paradise to ourselves. I could have stayed there forever. We also did some snorkeling on the off of the beach area and saw a lot of very colorful fish and coral. I was not expected to snorkel there, but I am so glad we did. Our last stop for the day was Taka Makassar Island. This was a crescent ship white sandy beach like someone would see in a Hollywood movie or something. It was stunningly beautiful and the sand was so soft between my toes. A feeling I think I will never forget anytime soon. We stayed the night on the boat right off of the coast of Gila Lawa. The next morning after breakfast we hiked to the top of Gila Lawa. Hiking Gila Lawa was a bit harder than Hiking Padar island, but it was so worth it. From the top if was almost like you could see for miles and miles and you could truly see the different depths in the water from the different shades of blue. This was so cool to see. What a great way to start the morning by doing some great cardio and seeing such majestic sites. After leaving Gila Lawa we started to head back to Labuan Bajo, but before going back to the mainland of Flores, we made our last stop in Kanawa Island. This was great place to make our last stop, because I could sit back on a lounge chair on the beach and just reflect on how awesome our trip was. The sand was perfect and the water was like a perfect turquoise color. You could even see small starfish in the water, which showed me this island must not get many visitors apparently. Again like many of the places, we had this place to ourselves. It was an island paradise I was happy to experience. After all of our locations we visited, we headed back to the harbour in Labuan Bajo and thanked the crew for the wonderful time. They drove of back to our hotel and that was the end of the trip. All in all, I can say this was one of the best trips of my life and I will never forget it. I want to do it over and over again. I guess next time we come back, we have to book a Flores Overland Tour and do things they recommended like a Wae Rebo Village Tour, Bena Traditional Village Tour, or a Kelimutu Lakes Tour. I can see from experience Maika Komodo Tour was very professional and made sure my family had a great time on our travels. I will be booking a Flores land Tour next time for sure! |
