Komodo National Park Information Komodo Island (Pulau Komodo) in Located in Komodo National Park and is one of the 17,508 Island that are a part of the Republic of Indonesia. It is located between the islands of Flores and Sumbawa. The island is famous because it is one of the only island in the world where you can see Komodo Dragons, which is the largest lizard on planet earth. The Island is part of the Lesser Sunda chain of islands of Indonesia. There is also a beach named “Pink Beach” , which is one of only 7 in the world, where you can see pink sand. The sand appears pink because of the sand which is mixed with red sand.
Komodo Island has a full surface area of about 390 square kilometres and there are over 2000 people who live on the island. As well and many tourists who visit the island every single day. The locals that live there are descendants of former convicts who were actually exiled to the island. The descendants were mixed with people from Sulawesi and Bugis. The main religion is Islam, but there are also Hindu and Christian people there are well. A major tourist attraction in Komodo is to see the Dragons. There is a visitors center where guests can sign in and register and have a guide or ranger accompany them for trekking on the island. Usually the guides offer three different trails to hike on to, in hopes of spotting the wild animals in their natural habitat. The trails are a short trail, a medium trail, and long trial. Most people choose the short or medium trail, as the long trail can take 5+ hours and sometimes may be more difficult depending on current weather conditions. Another massive sport the brings visitors to the National Park is Scuba Diving. The area boosts some of the most scenic and strong currents of anywhere in the world. This perfect geographical area provides many kinds of coral and aquatic wildlife. If it quite common to see Manta Rays in the rainy seasons as well. Within the park there are many notably famous diving locations, including Batu Bolong, Manta Point, Crystal Rock, and others. Scuba Divers come from all over the world to dive in the clear waters of Komodo. The most famous Islands in Komodo National Park consist of: Rinca, Kanawa, Padar, Seraya, Kelor, Manjerite, Kalong, Batu Bolong, Tatawa Kecil, Tatawa Besar, Sabolon Kecil, Sabolon Besar, Taka Makassar, and many more. These are well known by locals and tourists because of Komodo Island Tours, and Komodo Scuba diving trips. Taking a Komodo Boat Trip is one of the most popular activities to do in the National park. These are usually taken on big liveaboard boats or day trips lead by scuba diving companies. Many people have reported seeing over 15 Manta rays on one time snorkeling or scuba diving in Manta Point. The island to the east of the Park is called Flores. Labuan Bajo is where most people fly into to visit the National Park. Labuan Bajo is located on the west part of Flores. Labuan is a growing small cities with many hotels and restaurants and in recent as of 2020 and 2021 has undergone many new renovations to the city to make it more tourist friendly.
