The National park includes Padar, Komodo, and Rinca, which are the three larger islands.  As well there are 26 smaller smaller island that equal a total area of 1,733 km2(603 km2) of land.

The national park is most famous for it Komodo dragons, which are the world’s largest lizards,  that live on Komodo and Rinca Island. It was founded as a National Park in 1980 to protect the Komodo Dragons.  Later it was dedicated to protecting other species, as well including marine species in the park.  Which is another reason it is so popular for scuba diving. Diving North and South Komodo

Komodo National Park is an incredible destination for scuba divers, because is offers an array of diverse dive sites and conditions that are legendary for any diver.  The Flores Sea on the northern side and the Savu Sea and Indian Ocean on the south are connected by the Sape, Linta, and Molo Straits. From about April to November, the clear, warm waters from the Banda and Flores Seas create an ideal environment for hard corals and seamounts, while the deeper, colder currents from the Indian Ocean bring forth planktonic life to the south. Reversing from December to March, the warmer waters move to the south while the cooler, greener conditions take over the north.

If you are looking for strong currents when you are diving.  Komodo has them for sure.  The national park is famous for its high-energy, adrenaline pumping dive sites and as well the powerful tides that surge through the straits and channels. These immense water movements produce a grand mix of different tides, giving divers the opportunity to explore some great spots of visibility, current-washed seamounts, sheer black basalt walls, tranquil inlets, and dazzling and colorful coral gardens. This mix of conditions makes Komodo one of the most prolific and exciting marine destinations on the planet.  This is why for many of the dive sites it is highly recommended to have an advanced diving certification as well.

If Scuba Diving Komodo is high on your list, than you have come to the correct place.  We can offer many scuba diving itineraries for you.  If you want to do day trips or multi-day trips, we can accommodate you.  We have an extremely experienced team and can help you with every step of the process.  We can even do Scuba Certification courses as well.  Contact us for more information.  To see a Komodo Map, please visit our Komodo Island Map Page.

A summary of Scuba Diving in Komodo National Park

Diving in the Komodo Islands is a must-do activity for any visitor to the region, and a combination of trekking and scuba diving is the perfect way to experience all that the area has to offer. Located between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores in Indonesia, the Komodo National Park is home to a diverse array of marine life, with over 30 different dive sites scattered throughout the park. The best time to go diving in the Komodo Islands varies depending on the type of experience you want to have. From December to March, the rainy season brings heavy rainstorms but also offers the chance to see manta rays. April to June is a good time to visit, with warm weather and clear skies. July to August is peak diving season, with large crowds and many liveaboards operating in the park. September to November is a quieter time, with fewer crowds and the chance to see manta rays and possibly even whale sharks.

When it comes to choosing between a day tour and a liveaboard, both options have their own benefits. Day tours are more affordable, with three dives costing around $105, and are a good choice for those with limited time in the area. Liveaboards, on the other hand, offer a unique experience, with the opportunity to spend a few days on a boat diving during the day and sleeping under the stars at night. The downside to liveaboards is that they are more expensive, but they also allow you to visit more dive sites in a shorter space of time. Whichever option you choose, diving in the Komodo Islands is an unforgettable experience that should not be missed.
