What are Things to do in Komodo?
Komodo Island is a destination like no other. Located in the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia, the island is home to the Komodo National Park, which is a UNESCO World heritage site. From trekking through its lush natural environment to snorkeling in its crystal clear waters, there is no shortage of activities to do on this amazing island. Here is a guide to the top 10 activities to do when visiting Komodo Island.
1. Trekking Through the Komodo National Park: One of the best ways to experience Komodo Island is to go on a guided tour of the National Park. To get there, first take a Komodo tour and then you can explore the diverse habitats, which are home to a variety of wildlife, including the famous Komodo dragons. When you arrive at the pier, you will come to the visitors station.  This is where you can get information on the Dragons, pay the park fees, and get a local ranger to be your guide through Komodo Island.  You have three options for hiking. The short trek, medium trek, and long trek.  The most common of these is the short and medium trek.  The medium trek takes about 45 mins - 1hour and the long trek can take much longer.  From our experience, every guests who takes the long trek says they did not see any dragons or only a few, but most everyone see them on the short or medium trekking.  If you do decide to do the medium or long trek, you may want to bring shoes instead of sandals.

2. Snorkeling and Diving in the Crystal Clear Waters: Komodo Island is a paradise for snorkelers and divers alike. With its rich marine life, the waters around the island are teeming with vibrant coral reefs and colorful fish.  Pink Beach is right around the corner from the pier of Komodo Island.  Many boat trips will visit Pink beach and it is an absolute paradise for lounging on the beach, snorkelling or scuba diving.

3. It is quire rare to do with any tour company, but you can explore the Traditional Villages: Komodo Island is home to a variety of traditional villages, where you can experience the unique culture and customs of the islanders. Many times they are out fishing or they are selling arts and crafts to tourists in the tourism center of the island.

4. Visiting Some of the Beaches: Komodo Island is surrounded by a number of stunning beaches, making it the perfect place for sunbathing and swimming. If you are on a private Komodo cruise or Private Komodo boat charter you may be able to make your own itinerary and visit many of the beautiful beaches on the island.  The most popular of all of these is Pink Beach, which many of the Komodo boat tours visit.

5. Swimming and Kayaking: There are plenty of opportunities to get out on the water around Komodo Island. Whether you prefer swimming or kayaking, there are plenty of spots to explore.  As with any activity in Komodo National Park, make sure to check with you Komodo Tour guide to go to the correct places to have a safe and enjoyable trip.

6. Taking a Tour of Rinca Island: Rinca Island is just a short boat ride away from Komodo Island, and it is home to more Komodo dragons. Taking a guided tour of Komodo island is a great way to spot some of these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.

7. Spotting Some of the Amazing Wildlife and taking Photography: In addition to the Komodo dragons, the waters and forests of Komodo Island are home to a variety of other wildlife, such as wild boars, deer, water buffaloes, and monkeys.  Make sure to bring a good camera, as with some of these animals you can get closer than you may have thought at first.

8. Going on a Sunset Cruise: To experience the best of Komodo Island, head out on a sunset cruise. Here, you can watch the sun set over the horizon, as you take in the beauty of the island.  At the moment, the only way to do this is by renting a private boat for you group.  This way, you can have you own schedule and itinerary to plan a great itinerary for you group.

9. Go scuba diving around the North and South part of Komodo. There are great diving locations such as; Gili Nihidang, Pink Beach, Manta Alley, The End of the World, Lekohsera Ridge, The Bat Boat, German Flag, Colleen’s Corner, Castle Rock, Crystal Rock, Crystal Cove, Shotgun, Lighthouse, GLD west Reef, GLD Passage, Spanish Steps, Mucky Basin, Big Nose, Ten Foot Reef, Sidecar Seamount, Moncho Rocks, Puple Haze, and Low Critter.  As with any dive site in Komodo, it is always good to be with a dive professional that knows the ares and understands the currents and tides.  Some of the dive sites can be very dangerous if the conditions are not good.
10.  Wildlife and beach photography.  There is so much wildlife to see on a Komodo Island tour above and under the water that photography is a great thing to do in Komodo National park.

No matter what activities you choose to do, you are sure to have a wonderful time while exploring Komodo Island. From its stunning natural beauty to its rich cultural heritage, this island is sure to make your vacation unforgettable.
