Komodo Island Tour Information
Picture
At Maika Komodo tour, we offer Boat trips and Live aboard trips to all of Komodo National Park.
Taking a boat trip is the only way to visit Komodo National Park and all the beautiful islands in the area. This is the only way to visit Komodo National Park and all the beautiful islands in the area.   Our boats leave from Labuan Bajo and come back to Labuan Bajo.
The islands that we go to are about  (25 miles) 40 kilometers, from Labuan Bajo, and the trip usually takes about  2 hours, or less than half that if you book one of the speedboats.
Although you can see all the top sights of Komodo National Park (including the dragons) in one full day tour, we always recommend a 2 or 3 day liveaboard boat tour. This way you are are not rushed and you can take you time and see many other great areas in the national park.  When you are in Paradise…it is always nice to stay for a while and truly enjoy the amazing places.  You can go snorkelling, hiking, or just lay out on one of the beautiful beaches in the Park.

To get to Labuan Bajo, you can take many options of flights every day from Bali. These are about 1 hour and there are several airlines offering ticket prices as low as $35 USD, depending on the season that you choose to go in.
After you get to Labuan Bajo, you can come to our office in town and we can show you many options we have or you can call us or book online.

Getting Around The Islands by Different Boats
There are three different types of boat tours we offer, so you can enjoy exploring the islands.  We offer a local boat, which take about 2.5 hrs to get to the park, you can take a speedboat, or liveaboard boat and do a 2 day up to a 4 day tour. Taking a Slower local boat one of the lower price options we offer.  We also offer a Speedboat, which is a much faster and more efficient way to take a day trip.  Our most recommended tours is by taking a Liveaboard.  This way you can see all of the national park and take your time while doing it.  Obviously no one wants to be rushed while they are in paradise on their vacation.  We offer multi room boats with many options for entertainment and perfect for a family or a group.

Getting around Labuan Bajo.  You can rent motor scooters at an average price of 75k to 100k Rupiah per day.  There is also the option of taking a taxi motor scooter.  You can usually see these by looking for the motor bikes that are diving around town with one driver and an extra helmet.  You can just wave them down.  There is also local transportation which goes to Ruteng, Bajawa, or Ende.  There are usually pretty dirty buses and you can get extremely car sick when diving through the mountains.  As far as Labuan Bajo though, it is quite easy to get around on a motor scooter.

When is the best time to Visit
Picking the right time to visit really depends exactly what you are looking to see.  If you go towards the end of Rainy season, around Feb to April, you will see very green mountains and lush views, but you also may still experience a lot of rain in the afternoons as well.   Many scuba divers like coming in the rainy season because you can usually see many more manta rays in the water and they are feeding.  After around May, the grass starts to turn yellowish and then later a bit brown.  Although this may not be as pretty for some travelers, you are usually guaranteed to have a dry trip.   If your main goal is to see Komodo dragons, you can see then at all times of the year, so you don’t have to worry about that.  Peak season for Komodo National Park is typically July to August.  If there was a time that you might want to avoid (if you are not looking for Manta rays) is December to February, as this is high rainy seasons and many times the boat trips may get cancelled because of rough water and high winds.  Although the weather is not good at this time, if you are looking to avoid any crowds, this would be a better time to go.  It really depends on what you want our of your trip and what you are looking for.
Seeing Komodo Dragons
Many people come to the National Park with one main goal of seeing the majastic famous dragons.  Instead of watching them on tv or online, you get a chance to actually see them up close and in their natural habitat.  If you want to see Komodo Dragons in the wild, Komodo National Park is the only place in the world where you can see them in their natural habitat.
There are two islands where the dragons live.  Komodo Island and Rinca Island.  Both island have trekking trails that you can hike while accopanies by a trained park ranger.  Hiking with a park ranger is required because the dragons can be dangerous and the rangers are there to guide you, educate you, and keep you safe while while you are on your trek.  On each island their a different trekking options ranging from easier, medium, or harder.
When you visit either or these two islands, You are almost guaranteed to see at least a few of them. The Park rangers will also assist you with taking photos around the dragons so you can have some great souvenirs to take home.  There are also a few shopping options, such as local crafts and snacks.
