Komodo Island Tour Information We arrived in Labuan Bajo in Flores on a Thursday night and by Friday morning we were on our boat heading to Komodo National Park. We were picked up by car at our hotel and taken to Maika Komodo Tours Office. We had coffee and tea, filled out a few forms and then headed to the boat. The crew welcomed us like family once we arrived on the boat. They were all very nice. The crew showed us were everything on the boat was and made us feel very comfortable. We did a short briefing about our trip and then we were on the water. The ocean was very smooth and we had such a nice sail away. The weather was great so everywhere in our group was laying out and sun bathing on the top deck. There were nice bing bag chairs to lounge out and a nice colourful balcony.
On our trip, we visited Padar Island, Komodo Island, Manta Point, Kelor Island, and Kanawa. Out of all the places we went to on our Komodo National Park tour, I have to say Padar was probably our groups favourite location. It took us about 45 minutes to hike to the top, and I can say, it was absolutely worth it. The 360 degree views were absolutely stunning. You can see the four different beach bays and the mountains for so great…it was incredible! We took so many photos and also met another group from France that we all made great friend with. We stayed on top for about another 45 mins and then decided to go back down. On the way down we saw a few wild deer and took some great photos. We also have real coconuts while on the beach. I can honestly say Padar Island is an absolute paradise like I have never seen before! I would have to say my second favourite place would have been Komodo Island. I actually got to take a photo in front of a real life Komodo Dragon. I was so scared, but fortunately the professional guides were very reassuring that we were safe. The guides helped us take some great photos and I’m pretty sure everyone in our group we extremely happy with the experience. We hiked around Komodo Island for about 1 hour and also had time to eat snacks and shop for local made arts and crafts. I also have about 15 minutes to have a good conversation with on of the craftsman. He spoke pretty good english and I learn a lot. Anytime, I travel, I love to try learn as much as I can from any of the locals. They have very unique customs and cultures. This experience also made visited Komodo Island a favourite. My next favourite spot was Manta Point. We literally got to snorkel with Manta Rays. This was an amazing experience! They were so big and would swim right next to us. I thing we counted 8 of them at one time. Fortunately I had a go pro and I could get some great video footage of the Manta Rays swimming underneath me. They were so elogant in the way they would glide through the water. It was almost like they are were dancing with each other and our group was also part of the dance. I also noticed that each one was just a little different if you looked at the bottom of them. Some of them were white and black spots and different patterns. There was even one which looked like it was black on the bottom. Apparently our guides said this is very rare. It was so cool. I will never forget visiting Manta Point. Seeing these beautiful creatures changed my life. I think they are now my favourite animals in the underwater world. As far as my favourite place to just relax would be a toss up between Pink Beach and Kanawa. There were both fantastic beaches to see and experience. At Pink Beach the sand was actually a shad of pink and you could pick it up in your hands and see the small little pieces of pink specs in the sand. This is the first time I had ever seen anything like this. Truly unique and worth remembering. Comparing in to Kanawa is had to do, because they were both great for soaking up sun and relaxing. We saw more starfish in the water at Kanawa and I thing the snorkeling was a little bit better, but they were both great because the water was so clear. We also got to do some hiking up on Kanawa island and there was a nice view so this made it a great place to take photos. When we got back, the crew thanked us for choosing them and we very helpful with unloading all of the gear. I can honestly say, this was a fantastic trip and I would highly recommend Maika Komodo Tours to anyone that is visit Labuan Bajo and wanting to visit Komodo National Park. This was a very rememberable trip and I hope to come back soon! - Stephanie Hanes - USA |
