I was filled with anticipation as I prepared for my flight from Bali to Labuan Bajo. I had heard so many amazing things about the Komodo Islands, and I was eager to experience them for myself. The first day of the trip was spent exploring some of the stunningly beautiful and diverse dive sites around the Komodo Islands. I saw a vast array of marine life, from vibrant coral reefs to sea turtles, reef sharks, and an incredible array of colorful reef fish. I was also lucky enough to catch a glimpse of some of the majestic Komodo dragons that inhabit the island as well. In one day I got to scuba diving with manta rays and see 5 Komodo dragons. Wow…what a great first day! On the second and third day, I experienced the thrill of diving with Manta Rays again and exploring some of the more remote parts of the Komodo Islands. As with the first day, I was still so amazed by the grace and beauty of the Manta Rays, as they seem to do a beautiful dance around the water for us. Not to mention all the varieties of unique and colorful species of fish, and the coral reefs that provide a home for them. I also had the chance to visit some of the local villages and experience the local culture firsthand. That was extremely uniques. I got a chance to use the bahassa Indonesia I have been learning. (I have a long way to go still) On the fourth day, I had the chance to relax and explore the local town of Labuan Bajo. I had the chance to explore a local market, sample some of the delicious local cuisine, and take in the vibrant atmosphere. I also had the chance to visit some of the local attractions, including the famous Batu Cermin Cave. I highly recommend it as well. On the fifth and final day, I was sad to say goodbye to the friendly crew and the other guests. But I was also filled with a sense of accomplishment, having experienced the best vacation of my life.
