Batu Bolong
Batu Bolong is another must-visit dive site in Komodo National Park. This site is known for its strong currents and impressive underwater topography, featuring a large pinnacle covered in colorful coral and surrounded by schools of fish. The site is suitable for experienced divers due to its challenging conditions, but the rewards are worth it. Divers can expect to see reef sharks, giant trevallies, and barracudas.  This site is for more advanced divers only, as the currents can become quite strong.  There is no snorkeling allowed at Batu Bolong because of past situations where the coral gardens have been damaged by careless snorkelers.

Siaba Besar
Siaba Besar is a lesser-known dive site in Komodo National Park, but it is definitely worth a visit. This site features a shallow coral garden that is perfect for snorkeling or for beginner divers. The site is home to a variety of marine life, including clownfish, nudibranchs, and moray eels.  The most popular marine animal to see at Siaba Besar is the Sea Turtles.  On a good dive you may see up to 15 or more of them.  Some of them are very large in size as well.

My Name is Sherry and I offered to write a blog about My Komodo National Park experience.

​I was filled with anticipation as I prepared for my flight from Bali to Labuan Bajo. I had heard so many amazing things about the Komodo Islands, and I was eager to experience them for myself.  I have always wanted to see a Komodo Dragon and diving in Komodo National Park is something I was looking forward to as well! 

After a short flight, I arrived in Labuan Bajo and boarded my liveaboard boat.  I choose Maika Komodo Tour & Diving because they were recommended to me by a good friend. (she used their service as well)  I wasn’t sure what kind of Komodo Tour Package to choose but Tis (on WhatsApp) helped me out so much.    I was amazed by the kindness of the staff and and comfortable accommodations of the boat and the friendly and knowledgeable crew.

The first day of the trip was spent exploring some of the stunningly beautiful and diverse dive sites around the Komodo Islands. I saw a vast array of marine life, from vibrant coral reefs to sea turtles, reef sharks, and an incredible array of colorful reef fish. I was also lucky enough to catch a glimpse of some of the majestic Komodo dragons that inhabit the island as well.  In one day I got to scuba diving with manta rays and see 5 Komodo dragons.  Wow…what a great first day!

On the second and third day, I experienced the thrill of diving with Manta Rays again and exploring some of the more remote parts of the Komodo Islands. As with the first day, I was still so amazed by the grace and beauty of the Manta Rays, as they seem to do a beautiful dance around the water for us. Not to mention all the varieties of unique and colorful species of fish, and the coral reefs that provide a home for them. I also had the chance to visit some of the local villages and experience the local culture firsthand.  That was extremely uniques.  I got a chance to use the bahassa Indonesia I have been learning.  (I have a long way to go still) 

On the fourth day, I had the chance to relax and explore the local town of Labuan Bajo. I had the chance to explore a local market, sample some of the delicious local cuisine, and take in the vibrant atmosphere. I also had the chance to visit some of the local attractions, including the famous Batu Cermin Cave.  I highly recommend it as well. 

On the fifth and final day,  I was sad to say goodbye to the friendly crew and the other guests. But I was also filled with a sense of accomplishment, having experienced the best vacation of my life. I was also grateful to Maika Komodo Tours & Diving for their excellent service and hospitality, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for an amazing adventure in the Komodo Islands.  

My flight back to bali was quite impressive because the weather was so clear so I finally had the chance to enjoy the scenic flight over the islands. It was an incredible experience, taking in the stunning views of the islands from the air. I was amazed by the sheer size and beauty of the Komodo Islands, and I was filled with a sense of awe and appreciation for the natural beauty of this unique part of the world.

​Day 1-3: Snorkeling or Scuba Diving in Komodo National Park

​Day 4-5: Wae Rebo Village

After 3 days of diving and snorkeling, it's time to explore the cultural side of Flores. Wae Rebo is a traditional village located in the remote mountains of Flores. The village is home to the Manggarai people, an indigenous group that has lived in the area for centuries.

To get to Wae Rebo, you'll need to take a 2-day/1-night trek. The trek can be challenging, as it involves climbing steep hills and traversing rugged terrain, but the views are absolutely breathtaking. You'll pass through lush rainforests, terraced rice paddies, and traditional villages.

Once you reach the village, you'll be greeted by the friendly locals and will have the opportunity to learn about their way of life and culture. The village is home to a unique type of traditional houses called Mbaru Niang. These houses are made of wood, bamboo and thatched with alang-alang grass, and are unique architectural structures.
