  1. Pack appropriately: Komodo Island has a tropical climate, with hot and humid weather year-round. Make sure to pack lightweight, breathable clothing, as well as sunscreen, a hat, and insect repellent. If you are planning to do any diving or snorkeling, bring a swimsuit and a towel, as well as any other necessary diving equipment.
  2. Be prepared for physical activity: Some tours may involve hiking or other physical activities, such as climbing up to see the view from the top of a hill or walking through the jungle to see the Komodo dragons. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water to stay hydrated.
  3. Follow local rules and regulations: Komodo Island is a protected national park, and there are rules and regulations in place to help protect the environment and the wildlife. Make sure to follow any instructions or guidelines provided by your tour guide or park staff, and respect the wildlife and the natural environment.
  4. Respect the culture and traditions of the local community: Komodo Island is home to a traditional fishing village, and it is important to respect the culture and traditions of the local community. Be mindful of your surroundings and follow any local customs or traditions, and try to be as low-impact as possible.

How do I act around Komodo Dragons?

Komodo dragons are the largest living species of lizard, and they are native to the Indonesian islands of Komodo and Rinca. If you are visiting Komodo Island and have the opportunity to see Komodo dragons in their natural habitat, here are some tips on how to act around them:
  1. Follow the guidance of your tour guide or park staff: Your Komodo tour guide or park staff will have experience and knowledge about how to safely view and interact with the Komodo dragons. Make sure to follow their instructions and guidance at all times.
  2. Keep a safe distance: Komodo dragons are wild animals, and it is important to keep a safe distance from them. Stay at least 3 meters (10 feet) away from any Komodo dragon, and do not try to touch or approach them.
  3. Do not feed the Komodo dragons: Feeding the Komodo dragons is strictly prohibited, as it can lead to aggressive behavior and can cause them to lose their natural hunting instincts. Do not offer food to the dragons, and do not leave any trash or food scraps in their habitat.
  4. Do not make loud noises or sudden movements: Komodo dragons are sensitive to loud noises and sudden movements, and they may become agitated or aggressive if they are startled. Make sure to speak quietly and move slowly when you are around the dragons.
  5. Respect the dragons and their habitat: The Komodo dragons are an important part of the local ecosystem, and it is important to respect them and their habitat. Do not touch or disturb the dragons or their surroundings, and follow any rules or regulations that are in place to protect them.
